It's springtime in Southern California, where Geek is headquartered, but you wouldn't know it from where we're sitting.
Y’see, we watch a lot of videos in the course of a week. Movie trailers, video game footage, wacky comedy parodies, you name it. We’ve almost forgotten what it’s like feel the warmth of the sun on our skin. In that way, we’re a lot like vampires, except not sexy or sparkly and we don’t suck at anything except getting a proper amount of exercise. But we will spread our curse onto you – no biting necessary.
We’ve found 14 videos over the last week or two that are probably good for blowing an afternoon in front of your computer or your tablet device. Of course, with a good wi-fi signal, maybe you can watch these clips outdoors. It’s worth a shot.
And if you know of any great geeky videos we may have missed, link to them in the comments and we might feature them in future installments.
Resident Evil 6 x Left 4 Dead 2
Two massively popular video game franchises with zombies in them cross over in an amazing way. This in-game action trailer from Capcom shows us what happens when the heroes from each world take on mutated zombies they’ve never seen before. RE6 + L4D2 = FUN!
Star Trek Into Darkness international trailer
Hey, Cumberbatch actually speaks on screen in this one, not just providing ominous voice-overs. Looks intensely dark, but fun. And pretty much no lens flares to be seen anywhere.
Game of Thrones season 3 trailer #2
Cannot. Wait. Until. Season. Three. Starts!
The Postal Service Auditions
The Postal Service is getting back together for another album. But how many singers did Subpop have to audition before they discovered Ben Gibbard? Featuring appearances by Duff McKagan, Weird Al Yankovic, Moby, Aimee Mann, Marc Maron, and more.
Insane Office Escape 2
Don’t let the boobs bursting out of the video still below fool you. This video has nothing to do with girls going wild in any capacity. The pair show up in about one 10th of a second of this video. But this video is so cool that you won’t mind one bit. It’s a real life first person shooter that doesn’t stop moving. Throw in some crazy sci-fi teleportation gadgety stuff and an industrial hellscape set in Russia, and you’ve got a winner. Yes, it’s a music video for a song called “Bad Motherf**ker” from a band called Biting Elbows(?), but who cares? Watch and be amazed. The video sure lives up to the song’s title.
Doctor Who Returns March 30th with all new episodes – BBC America trailer
All you need to know is that he’s the Doctor and… he’s afraid. If you know Who, then you know just how unsettling a statement like that is.
My GoPro Array
Every day moments get the bullet time treatment from the Matrix with this special GoPro camera array.
Despicable Me 2 trailer 2
Gru is back with the kids and the minions, but this time he gets recruited to be a hero, because he thinks like a villain… or something. Either way, it looks cute and hopefully it will be as good as the first one.
Team Unicorn “For the Win”
The Team Unicorn girls are back with their first music video for their first original song about all things geeky. Featuring guest appearances by Aisha Tyler, Weird Al Yankovic, and Grant Imahara (from Mythbusters), this video puts the gorgeous ladies of ‘corn in an all out brawl for something or other. We don’t remember. They just looked great doing it. And whether you like it or not, the song will get stuck in your head for days to come.
Assassin’s Craft III: Minecraft Trailer Mashup
Ever wonder what Assassin’s Creed III would look like set in the Minecraft world? Machinima answers that question for you.
Welcome to the Punch trailer, starring James McAvoy and Mark Strong
This one’s very British, but it’s got gunplay like an American film. Starring James McAvoy, Mark Strong, and a few other familiar faces (was that the Governor?), Welcome to the Punch looks to be a potentially gritty good time at the cinema.
Luke’s Change: an Inside Job!
We mentioned this video last week, but it merits another plug, just in case you missed it. The Death Star attack was an inside job! Don’t believe us? Just watch the video.
The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct game launch trailer
Well, that snuck out awful quietly. You figure a game starring the Walking Dead’s Daryl and Merle would be something Activision would make a lot of noise about. It looks cool, but has anyone played it? Or does the glory of Tomb Raider make everything else released in the past few weeks, no matter how good or bad, pale in comparison?
Metro: Last Light cinematic trailer
With the loss of THQ last year, the fate of this game was in question for awhile. Looks like they’re putting our worries to rest with this new cinematic story trailer. Dark, brutal, and buried beneath the ruins of Moscow, Metro looks like it could be one hell of a ride. Here’s hoping we get to play it sooner rather than later.
As we said above, are there any other videos we should have included from this past week? Let us know in the comments below.
