Here's a selection of some possible pre-production artwork from Marvel's upcoming slate of Phase Two films: three from Guardians of the Galaxy and one from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
The 3 images from Guardians give us a glimpse into the Star Wars original trilogy feel that the film will hopefully capture, putting our heroes in the darkest and grittiest corners of the galaxy they are sworn to protect. If that image is meant to evoke the Mos Eisley cantina, mission accomplished. They seem right at home there, if not entirely welcome. I’m sure all it takes is one bad hand of cards for Rocket to cause some trouble.
As for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, his look appears to be pretty much in line with the comic, complete with cybernetic arm. However, he does appear to have a face mask that covers his nose and mouth instead of a domino mask, but it’s not entirely clear from this image. And for those who don’t know the identity of the Winter Soldier, I won’t ruin it here, but this is a “bad guy” that Cap won’t exactly be enthusiastic about battling.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is due in theaters April 4th, 2014.
Guardians of the Galaxy invades our world August 1st, 2014.
The first chapter of Marvel Phase 2 starts May 3rd, 2013 with Iron Man 3, continues in Thor: The Dark World November 8th, 2013 before handing it off to Cap 2 and Guardians in 2014 and culminating in Avengers 2 in 2015.
So what are your thoughts on these images? Were you expecting something different or are they getting you jonesed to see real footage (likely at the D23 Expo, not Comic-Con, in August)?
