It looks like Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are back for another go around in the new sequel of 21 Jump Street, cleverly titled: 22 Jump Street.
This time, it seems after leaving high school in their wake, they are taking their destructive attitudes and blatant disregard for authority into the next level: College. According the trailer below, it looks like the Jump Street program has been labeled a success and that Officers Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) are getting another case and this time. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, The Lego Movie) re-team with the returning stars to direct the sequel. Ice Cube (Ride Along) also returns as their captain to help guide his misguided team to success in deep undercover, as well as yell incessantly like good police captains do to their officers.
Basically, looking at the trailer, it’s going to employ the same type of hijinks from the dynamic duo…and I’m perfectly okay with that. 21 Jump Street was a fun movie that embraced the ridiculous idea of a reboot, had its tongue planted firmly in cheek, and let audiences in on the joke. It still has the manic visual style of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (see: Clone High or even the Brooklyn Nine-Nine pilot for the ADD type of comedic storytelling they employ) and even brings back a few people for cameos, including Nick Offerman, Rob Riggle and Dave Franco from the first movie.
June 13th, 2014 will be the release date for this action comedy.
