Deadwood is a show that still has die-hard fans and unresolved tensions. But a new video is out there to give fans a look back at their favorite western.
The video, A Lie Agreed Upon: David Milch’s Deadwood, is a documentary short that that not only marks the 10-year anniversary of the the popular HBO western, but also provides a loving look at the show the documentary calls “one of the greatest dramas in American television history.” The documentary is only 30 minutes long, but there’s a lot stuffed into those 30 minutes.
So what can you expect from A Lie Agreed Upon? If you’re new to the series, you can learn more about the show, including the gritty gunslinging, bad-mouthy rough-and-tumble atmosphere in the Wild West. If you’re an old hat at Deadwood, then prepare yourself for a trip down memory lane, including catchphrases from the show, the manliness that is Timothy Olyphant and, as alluded to before, tons of cursing. There’s also some trivia about the show, such as how the original pitch was said to be a drama set in ancient Rome, but when HBO refused on account of another Roman show in development (aptly called Rome), the show changed into the western we know today. There’s also tons of deep analysis of the show and its characters, too.
If you’re still iffy about the documentary for whatever reason, perhaps its worth mentioning that the documentary was made in part by RogerEbert.com.
Take a look at the video below the post and walk back into the hardcore, lawless world of Deadwood.
Of course, the only thing that could possibly appease some Deadwood fans is if the show miraculously came back to HBO, but this video certainly does show that even though the show is gone, it’s not forgotten.
