Deathlok is inbound to ABC's Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
I remember sitting in Ballroom 20 at Comic-Con 2013 and watching the pilot for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., where I watched the room explode with excitement and glee for the 40+ minutes. There was one thing that stood out before the screening and that was the role of J. August Richards. We had been treated to promos of him leaping from a building carrying a girl, but didn’t get much more information about the character.
Rumors of Luke Cage ran rampant, however, that got squashed as we found out it was just a guy named Mike Peterson, who wanted to make ends meet and was forced to align himself with the terrorist organization known as Centipede. The character has made a few appearances in the series since, but fans were left wondering what was in store for Mr Peterson. Recently we have learned that there was always a bigger plan in place for this hero: Deathlok.
For those of you that don’t know, Deathlok is a cyborg that was first introduced by Marvel in 1974 and has superhuman strength, stamina, agility, reflexes and a computer powered brain. This correlates with the current powers of Mike Peterson, who has received these enhancements against his will. Centipede recently outfitted the presumed dead Mike Peterson with a new cybernetic eye that can see through walls, and a cyborg leg that will presumably enable super speed.
What does this mean for the show? With Bill Paxton’s guest spot on the show coupled with an appearance from Jaimie Alexander’s Lady Sif from the Thor movies, apparently ABC and Marvel are stepping up the star and superhero quotient.
