As the summer months wrap up, our sadness at the end of the season will soon be replaced with the happiness of our favorite returning TV shows, including Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.
ABC’s first entry into the MCU – though not its last, with Agent Carter premiering mid-season – admittedly had a slow and at times rocky start, the series really found its footing in the last half of the season. The comic fans were rewarded with a number of adapted characters, TV audiences enjoyed the Hydra twist and fans of the MCU delighted in the unique connection that exists between properties in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Season two has already upped the ante from the first, and with Agent Coulson now set up as the new Director of SHIELD, the stakes are high and the groundwork set for this to be a great season. Today we’ll take a look at a few announcements of more great guest stars and other characters from the comics set to make their first appearances in the MCU.
A few guest stars we heard about previously are Lucy Lawless as SHIELD agent Isabelle Hartly, Reed Diamond as villain Daniel Whitehall AKA Kraken, and Kyle MacLachlan as Skye’s father, hopefully to wrap up the lingering mysteries of her origin as an O-8-4 (object of unknown origin).

The latest guest star to join the cast with the possibility of returning for more episodes is Adrianne Palicki as Bobbi Morse AKA Mockingbird.
Mockingbird is a long time SHIELD agent, and the former wife of Clint Barton AKA Hawkeye. Mockingbird is actually a perfect fit for Coulson and his team, and brings in a much needed comic character for the audience to get behind. Having a past with the Avengers’ Hawkeye certainly opens up a number of crossover potential as well.
Palicki is no stranger to comic adaptations, having roles in two ill-fated pilot attempts. The first was on the Aquaman pilot Mercy Reef starring Justin Hartley (Green Arrow on Smallville), and more recently in David E. Kelley’s widely panned Wonder Woman pilot. She also starred in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which might have given her a solid taste of the secret agent lifestyle that Bobbi Morse can bring to the team.
Finally, facing off against the Agents of SHIELD in the second season premiere will be Crusher Creel AKA the Absorbing Man. Marvel announced that Brian Patrick Wade (Teen Wolf) would be playing the Marvel villain, who has faced off against the likes of Thor and the Hulk for years.
“With his ability to absorb the properties of anything he touches, Creel will put Coulson and his team through their paces when their second season kicks off.”
We’ve gotten a taste of superpowered action in the first season, from characters like Deathlok and Blackout, so it’s refreshing to see that the series will be starting off with a heavy hitter like Creel. Hopefully they will keep pulling interesting threats from the wide array of Marvel villains at their disposal.
