One of my favorite films this year was Drive. I consider it the "anti-Mechanic" (the remake that starred Jason Statham). However, I could have seen Statham in Drive's lead role instead of Ryan Gosling, but only for a handful of scenes in the film.
Ryan is PERFECT in Drive. He’s quietly charming, appropriately reserved, with no sneering machismo or poorly tossed tagline zingers after each cool wheel screech, punch, or kick to a bad guy’s face. And like Ryan, this movie had a subdued style that made some of the carefully paced action scenes that much more jarring.
Of course, I also became a fan of the movie’s music. I want to go back and play Grand Theft Auto, insert the soundtrack into the game, and just cruise around for a few hours without causing any violence (unless violence is done to me or someone I care about).
