Fresh off an amazing mid-season finale, Arrow is looking towards the second half of their sophomore year and they're bringing some more DC Comics characters along for the ride. This time it is none other than William Tockman, aka Clock King.
For those familiar with Green Arrow history, this is pretty exciting news. A lot of the villains to appear on Arrow so far have been a bit more DC Universe in general villains, and of course some are straight out of Gotham City. Clock King however? Well he was all Green Arrow. Granted, he later moved on to appear in various Batman titles, but at the beginning he was a straight up nemesis of the Emerald Archer.
For those not familiar, a primer. William Tockman first appeared in the DC Universe in the late 40s in Star Spangled Comics #70, but the second, and more commonly known iteration of the villain, appeared in 1960 in World’s Finest Comics #111 (left).
Fitting with the Arrow universe of no metahumans or superpowers (although they’ve dipped a little pinky toe in that with the Blood and Flash storylines, I doubt we’ll see full blown superpowers any time soon, if ever) William Tockman is a regular guy with an inordinate sense of time.
His first brush with Green Arrow comes when, due to a misdiagnosis that leads him to believe he only has months to live, he attempts to rob a bank to procure money to care for his invalid sister after he dies. Green Arrow stops him, Tockman ends up not being on the brink of death, and Clock King is born.
Due to his innate grasp of time, Clock King has the ability to anticipate what might happen. How this will play out in Starling City, we do not yet know. However, we do know who will play Clock King and we do know what episode he’ll appear in!
Robert Knepper is no stranger to playing the bad guy, and there’s little doubt he’ll shine as Clock King. Likely most known for his role as T-bag in Prison Break, Knepper has also appeared in Heroes, Stargate Universe, The Blacklist, Carnivale (moment of silence please), and is currently on Mob City. Knepper will take on Clock King in episode 14 and will be joined by a returning guest star, Alex Kingston.
That’s right, Dinah Lance is returning to Starling City in what will likely be a heartwarming family reunion. Actually it will likely be sad and heart breaking as her previous appearance in “The Huntress Returns” was.
Arrow is currently on mid-season hiatus but will return on January 15.
