I imagine there will be a time when we won't have Avengers trailers to look forward to. And no matter how much I love them, that time can't come soon enough. May needs to get here already.
There’s lots of good NEW stuff crammed into this trailer, including lots more Black Widow and Hulk and a little bit more footage of whatever it is the Avengers are battling (yes, I know we’ve guessed the Skrulls in the past, but I honestly don’t want to definitely know. I don’t want to be spoiled. I wouldn’t mind experiencing it as it happens in the theaters). Speaking of spoilers, there are way too many turning point moments shown in this trailer, including what appears to be the destruction of the Avengers‘ base of operations. But I did like a lot of the little touches throughout, including a quick peek at Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders from How I Met Your Mother), the Hulk catching Iron Man mid-flight, and the scarred and damaged Avengers logo at the end, indicating that this won’t be just a fun little dustup between our heroes and Loki. You’d think that, to me, the big heroic moments would be the coolest. But really it’s those little moments of fear and weakness seen in our heroes, peppered throughout: Black Widow on her face practically in tears (not something you’d ever expect if you knew the character), Thor crying out in desperation. These things tell me that Joss Whedon and the stars have definitely humanized these characters on the big screen, knowing full well that they’re dealing with things they can’t understand and are in way over their heads. Only Tony Stark seems characteristically unaffected and snarky about everything going on around him.
I can’t say much else other than I am drooling for this to finally reach theaters in May. How about you? Do you think it will live up to this amazingly fun trailer?
Here’s a few screen grabs from the trailer to geek out over…
