It's a commonly held belief that any attempt to produce a video game based on a popular franchise isn't a good idea. This springs from the fact that a good percentage of the one's releases are lackluster. There have been a few good ones, though. I'm hoping that Bandai-Namco's Star Trek (Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC) is more the latter than the former.
Set within the universe of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot, the game tells an all-new story. It takes place between the 2009 film and Star Trek Into Darkness and will introduce an updated version of the Gorn as the primary enemies (at least that’s the only baddies we know of so far). Don’t expect them to look like the original series rubber suited man variety shown below.
From what we saw at E3 this past summer, these Gorn will be much scarier and will pose quite a threat to Kirk and Spock throughout the two player co-op game. Star Trek: the Video Game will be available for all platforms on April 23, 2013, six days after the new film hits theaters.
In the gallery below you’ll find larger versions of the game’s box art for the Xbox 360 and PS3 and a few new screenshots along with a some older ones (including some Gorn action!).
