One of the best new shows last year was, without a doubt, Bates Motel. Now the A&E original series is returning for a second season, and doesn't look to be scaling back on the crazy.
Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore headline the Psycho prequel, and do so in fine fashion. As Norma and Norman Bates respectively, the two actors bring to the screen a chemistry that you’d expect to see only between Oedipus and Jocasta.
Along with costars Max Thieriot, Olivia Cooke, and Nestor Carbonell, Bates Motel provided audiences with an up and down thrill ride of ten episodes in which you weren’t sure who was the most unhinged – Norma, Norman, or perhaps the viewer themselves. Now they are back for a second season and if you thought the uncomfortable awkwardness between the Bates family was over, you were wrong.
Note: If you haven’t seen season one, go directly to Netflix and watch it. Until you do, do not watch these trailers and promos for the second season.
Joining the returning cast (minus of course the dearly departed, of which there are many) are Michael Vartan (who will always be Michael Vaughn of J.J. Abrams‘ Alias) as a new love interest for Norma, plus Kathleen Robertson, Rebecca Creskoff, Kenny Johnson, and Paloma Kwiatkowski.
What trouble lies ahead for our beloved residents of White Pine Bay, Oregon? We’ll have to wait until March to find out for sure, but thankfully there has been plenty of promo material to whet our appetite until then.
You have to appreciate a show that can poke fun at itself and Bates Motel excels at that, in this bit put together for last year’s Comic Con.
Bates Motel returns to A&E on Monday, March 3 at 9 Eastern.
