Doctor Who won’t be back until the fall. As an act of mercy to us Whovians desperate for new content to tide us over until then, BBC America is producing four new DW documentaries (note to self: trademark phrase doctormentaries) that will air during the month of August. They each will cover topics crucial to making the show what it is – science, women, time travel and destinations.

The Science of Doctor Who, premiering August 4, will cover the influence real world science has on the show. The many females that exist in the Doctor Who universe will have the spotlight shone on them in the next special, The Women of Doctor Who, which will debut on August 11. Airing August 18, The Timey-Wimey Stuff of Doctor Who will attempt to explain the time travel theories used in the show. Things end on August 25 with The Destinations of Doctor Who, a look at the many places the Doctor and his companions have visited over the years.

With these plus the marathons will surely occur, our wait for new Doctor Who episodes will be much more bearable this time out.
