BBC Promos Winter Olympics in Fine Fashion

The BBC has released a trailer for their coverage of the Sochi Winter Olympics and it is amazing.

As an American sports fan, there are few things that give me chills more than hearing John Williams’ “Olympic Fanfare”. However, I am woman enough to admit when my own country has been bested, and in this arena, we certainly have.

The famed British television network, the BBC, will be covering the Sochi Olympics and they have put together a promo that is, well it is just jaw dropping.

Featuring the voice of Game of Thrones’ own Tywin Lannister, Charles Dance, the trailer makes you believe that you are about to depart on an epic journey, perhaps carrying a ring through Middle Earth. Or maybe you are tasked with guarding a wall in Westeros. Either way, it is clear that the BBC believes either their coverage of the Games, Team GB’s performance, or perhaps even both, will be other-worldly.

However, this isn’t their first foray into spectacular Olympic promos. For the home base London Games in 2012, they tasked Mercury Prize winning band Elbow to put this beautiful animation to music.

Now, don’t go thinking that the US is lacking in TV star voices in their Olympic promos. As a matter of fact, NBC scored a man from a show perhaps better than Game of Thrones?

Not quite as distinctive as Charles Dance, but that is Mr. Pollos Hermanos himself, Giancarlo Esposito. Esposito, of course, played the meth empire kingpin Gus Fring on Breaking Bad and can currently be seen on NBC’s Revolution.

What say you? Does the voice of Game of Thrones best that of Breaking Bad? Are you ready for February 6th? Don’t care about the Olympics at all? Let us know down in the comments below!
