Disney has released a short, peaceful looking teaser for its first animated movie based on a Marvel Comics property: Big Hero 6.
Wait, you don’t recognize the classic Marvel superhero team Big Hero 6? That’s okay: few people probably do. That’s because the team comes from two relatively low profile mini-series from 1998 and 2008 featuring some of the lesser known characters populating the Marvel Universe’s version of Japan, like former X-Man Sunfire, the Silver Samurai (a sometime-foe of Wolverine), and a bunch of characters made up just for the book, with names like GoGo Tomago and Honey Lemon.
It’s interesting, then, that the first movie to come from Disney’s animation studio to come from their extensive library of Marvel characters would be based on such an obscure bunch of characters. The film will follow the adventures of young genius Hiro Hamada—likely based on Big Hero 6 member Hiro Takchiho — and his relationship with the robot friend Baymax, and the adventure that unfolds when they join the rest of the titular superhero team.
The movie’s going to be directed by Disney veteran Don Hall, whose got mostly writing credits for some of the company’s big budget animated films, like Tarzan, Meet the Robinsons, and 2011’s Winnie the Pooh, which does double duty as Hall’s first and only directing credit.
Confused? Intrigued? Us too. Take a look at the teaser right here:
That’s not a ton to go on… but if nothing else, Disney has our attention. The movie’s set to be released in theaters on November 7, 2014.
