After long rumored talks, Marvel Studios finally announces who will voice the last member of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast.
Bradley Cooper will voice the fan favorite Rocket Raccoon, founding member of the current iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy and the last member of the movie team to be cast. He joins Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Rocket’s buddy and teammate, who has yet to be officially announced by Marvel:
Academy Award-nominated actor Bradley Cooper has officially joined the cast of Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” lending his voice to the fan-favorite raccoon that will join Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax (Dave Bautista) on their epic adventure.
Cooper has previously starred in “Silver Linings Playbook,” for which he was nominated for an Oscar®, “Limitless,” “Place Beyond the Pines” and the “Hangover” trilogy, the latter of which has grossed $1.4 billion globally. He will next be seen in “American Hustle” which will reunite him with “Silver Linings Playbook” director David O. Russell. “Guardians of the Galaxy” will mark Cooper’s first voiceover work.
It’s clear Gunn is building a cast that can handle not only the action inherent in the series, but the comedy that flowed through every issue of the original series by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, and the latest from Brian Michael Bendis continues this trend, with Rocket Raccoon very much in the lead for funniest character.
While Guardians of the Galaxy continues to showcase an impressive cast and the same mentalities that made previous Marvel Studios films a success, the relative opinion of the film remains fairly mixed. With such a risky property to attempt on the big screen casting a bit of doubt in potential viewers, the anticipation is weighted with a sense of unease over the potential of the film.
Chances are once footage of the film complete with the various actors performances is officially released, those feelings of doubt will subside. For now the film continues to impress where it counts, with a solid cast and a curious audience.
