Yet another relative unknown has joined the cast of Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. television series. Brett Dalton, soon-to-be known as Robert Todd Lincoln in the Killing Lincoln TV movie, has signed on to start as Agent Grant Ward, described in a character bio as a “strong, silent type with a bit of a temper." Dalton’s past work includes appearances on Army Wives, Blue Bloods and a TV movie entitled Nurses. He joins the already cast Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker.
Only two of the five character bios released by ABC in October remain un-cast. We’re still waiting to hear who’ll be Skye, the youthful “fun, confident and caring” girl, and Agent Althea Rice, the “hardcore soldier left hardened by battle.” It’s quite refreshing that they continue to bring non-marquee names in for the show’s core team. Hopefully this will allow for these characters to easily be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As we’ve mentioned in previous posts, Whedon will co-write the pilot with his brother Jed and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen. He will also direct if time permits. ABC has yet to announce when the series will debut, but all signs point to it being in 2013.
