Bryan Singer Reveals Rogue, Kitty, Iceman will Return in X-Men: Days of Future Past

Bryan Singer announced via Twitter earlier today that three actors from the original X-Men trilogy would be reprising their roles (although most likely alternate future versions of their characters) in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past film. Even better, each of the same actors will be reprising the roles instead of the unwise choice of recasting them. Anna Paquin will return as Rogue, Ellen Page will return to play Kitty Pryde, and Shawn Ashmore will once again be Iceman.

This adds to the already impressive list of actors that will be returning to the X-Men movie universe (Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, and Ian McKellan as Magneto) in the new film, even further strengthening the ties between the trilogy and the X-Men: First Class series of films.

If all of this sounds way to confusing to you (What about Fassbender and McAvoy? Two Magnetos? Two Xaviers?), don’t worry. As the time twisted title implies, time travel is involved. We will get to see both younger and older versions of some characters and, in the case of Logan, who doesn’t age very quickly, the same Hugh Jackman likely in both eras. I can’t begin to tell you what to expect from this film plot-wise, but I can tell you that it WILL NOT be exactly like the classic comic story and we shouldn’t expect it to be. The First Class kids will likely get a look at their future (our present?) where Sentinels have taken over the earth and mutants are either imprisoned or executed on sight. I wouldn’t bet on these new additions to the cast having a ton of screen time, though. The story will still focus on the First Class cast of characters. Making too many more primary would just make for an unwieldy film.

What are your thoughts on this announcement? Is there anyone else you’d like to see join up on this new X-Men adventure?
