Activision and Infinity Ward unveiled the next gen chapter in the Call of Duty franchise today during the Xbox Reveal event in Redmond, Washington.
Eric Hirshberg, Activision CEO, took the stage to give us a glimpse behind what we can expect from the next title in the series. The story will come from acclaimed writer Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana) and will take place in a whole new world with all new characters, using a new next-gen engine. It appears that you’re part of a team of soldiers fighting for freedom in a world where America has fallen and its government dismantled.
“Soldiers stand against their enemies, but ghosts haunt them.”
The trailer gives hints as to the story, but it’s really all about your character coming up against bad guys with guns plus an array of environmental dangers such as floods, earthquakes, toppling buildings, and, of course, lots and lots of explosions. The only way to be sure is to play it when it releases around the time of the Xbox One launch later this year. In fact, this game will be available exclusively to the Xbox One for a short time before it’s available on any other console platform. Hopefully, we’ll get an extended peek at the E3 Expo in a few weeks.
What we do know is this: It’s built on a next-gen engine, will have multiplayer, character customization, more interactive maps, and 60 fps gameplay. And this time around, you’ll have a dog as part of your team to help sniff out and take down your enemies. However, I have to warn Infinity Ward: if that dog has to die at some point to further the story… crying and gaming just don’t mix, okay?
The game looks more gorgeous and detailed than any previous incarnation. We’re excited. Are you?
