Another Brit takes on the mantle of an American superhero as Boardwalk Empire's Charlie Cox is the latest to join the world of capes and tights as Daredevil.
Charlie Cox, notable for his roles as Tristan in Stardust and Owen Sleater in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire – will make his debut as the blind Matt Murdock in Netflix’s latest. Hot on the heels of Edgar Wright’s exit from Marvel’s Antman. Also confirmed is Drew Goddard’s leave of the project to focus on the Spider-Man Sinister Six, so Joss Whedon vet Steven S. DeKnight will step in to replace him. Speculation has been going on for sometime now as to who’ll wear the red cowl, with Michael C. Hall being one of the bigger names thrown in the mix. That could’ve been an interesting take.
The news comes as Marvel just released the official statement. We’re pretty excited about the idea of Cox as The Man Without Fear – because well, we’ve got some Team-Owen fans in our camp. If you’re not watching Boardwalk Empire, you’re not one of the cool kids. Just sayin.
Daredevil is the first of the Netflix lineup, with Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage following to the streaming service, before the characters are all combined for a Defenders series. Basically a miniature Avengers-like takeover for Netflix, and we couldn’t be any more excited about it. But it also begs us to question if these characters will share the same continuity as The Avengers and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. And if this is a shared universe will we see any cameos?
The thought of a shared universe so vast would mean that cross over events are indeed possible, and that alone is epically mind-blowing. But before we get too excited, what do you guys think of the new casting? Are you ready to see a new Matt Murdock? (No hard feelings, Ben.)
