Harrison Ford and Asa Butterfield are awkward as heck in this introduction to our first glimpse at footage from the Ender’s Game film adaptation, set to hit theaters on November 1. But once the teaser starts and we finally get to see the movie that’s been in our brains since Orson Scott Card’s book first came out in 1985… well, it’s worth a little awkwardness.
Check it out:
For those who haven’t read the book, here it is in a nutshell: in the future, in the aftermath of an alien attack, genius kids are hand-picked to train in “Battle School” to prepare to fight back against the next assault. There, they learn to be the military and strategic geniuses who will command Earth’s forces and stop the insectoid aliens once and for all. And it looks like Andrew “Ender” Wiggin (Butterfield) is set to be the greatest enrollee in Battle School yet.
It’s a great book, and shades of its brilliance can be found in plenty of the recent science fiction and fantasy hits of the last few years, ranging from Harry Potter’s Hogwarts, to The Hunger Games’ kid-on-kid crazy-fighting action. The process to get the book made into a movie has been pretty arduous, though, and filming finally got started in 2012. And from the looks of the footage, fans of the book have a lot to look forward to.
What do you think of the footage? Is it everything you’ve hoped for? Or are you feeling a bit dubious about the film’s prospects to compete with the likes of Catching Fire?
