Director Marc Webb revealed via Twitter who he has chosen to play Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – Dane DeHaan, or a reasonable facsimile While not a household name, DeHaan proved himself a capable performer playing the misunderstood bad guy in 2011’s Chronicle (read Doug's review of the Blu-ray), one of the most believable films about super-powered people ever released. He was most recently seen in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln.
DeHaan’s character in Chronicle was a moody kid that had serious issues with his father. This, in my opinion, makes him perfectly suited to portray Harry Osborne. The big question now is how Osborne will be portrayed in the film. Provided they go with the popular & moody version we’ve seen before, DeHaan is undoubtedly the right man for the job.
The current plan is to have The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in theaters May 2, 2014. Shooting will begin early next year with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone reprising their respective roles. The script was written by a team of Fringe alumni – Alex Kurtzman, Robert Orci and Jeff Pinkerer. Hey, maybe we’ll get a Doctor Bishop cameo!
How do you feel about this new casting information? DeHaan has some large, emotional shoes to fill after James Franco’s performance in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films. Is he up to the task?
The clip below shows one of DeHaan’s many memorable moments in Chronicle:
