Gary Oldman Has Been Approached About Star Wars Episode VII Role

Gary Oldman has been a celebrated actor for years, but one can venture to say that no film has helped him gather new fans quite like Christopher Nolan's Batman series.

Now, legions of young people know him simply as Commissioner Gordon. And what a fine commissioner he is. But what if Gordon’s going to bring his no-nonsense character traits to Star Wars?

ScreenCrush has written that while promoting RoboCop, Oldman told Sky News Movies that he has, in fact, received a call from Disney about perhaps donning the Jedi (or Sith) robes.

“They’ve called,” he said when they asked if he’d be interested in starring in the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII. He did go on to say in so many words that he doesn’t know how serious the offer is. “The deal wasn’t done,” he said. “But yeah…they’ve inquired[.]”

So while it is a scoop, there’s also not much to go on. Will he be in Episode VII or won’t he? Will he be good or evil? Who can say. But we do know that they’ve reached out to him. If he does happen to snatch a role in the film, you can only assume that he’s going to make it awesome.

The question of Oldman’s involvement is now another in a laundry list of questions about Episode VII. We do know that the film will be released December 18, 2015, so there is quite a long wait ahead of us (but not that long in terms of actually writing a script, getting actors, filming and doing post-production work). However, the release date is about all we know. So far, according to IMDB, the original Star Wars main cast members have signed on – Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, and Anthony Daniels (better known as C-3PO). As to what the plot is, well, that remains to be seen. But so far, it feels like the film’s on the right track.

Who do you think Oldman could be if he’s cast? Give your predictions below!
