There has been no shortage of casting news lately, with both CW's Flash and Fox's Gotham in production at the moment. NBC's Constantine is ready to throw their hat into the ring.

We’ve been wondering who would be leading the cast as John Constantine in NBC’s developing series, especially considering our previous look at the character – Keanu Reeves in Constantine – took more than a few liberties with our favorite British badass.

NBC has cast Matt Ryan as the ”irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective” John Constantine. Ryan, a Welsh-born actor best known for his roles on Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and The Tudors, will be joined by True Blood‘s Lucy Griffiths as Liv. Also cast is Wedding Band‘s Harold Perrineau as Manny, and True Detective‘s Charles Halford as Chas. Deadline reports more on the characters:

John Constantine from Vertigo Constantine: NBC Casts Matt Ryan as the Supernatural Con ManJohn Constantine is described as a working-class Londoner with rakish good looks, scruffy blond hair, deadpan humor, and signature trench coat, who has been studying the dark arts since he was a teenager. When the daughter of a late friend is targeted by demons, Constantine steps in to save her.

Griffiths’ Liv is an offbeat young woman tired of her ordinary life who comes to discover that she has the ability of seeing the supernatural world among us, which makes her a key player in the battle between good and evil. Liv teams up with Constantine to save lives, master her power, and learn more about her late father.

…Manny, an authoritative angel assigned to watch over Constantine who has the power to step into other people’s bodies, and although he is meant only to observe, Manny will not hesitate to help out if he can save a life.

…Chas, Constantine’s oldest friend and staunch companion who possesses powerful survival skills that might possibly be supernatural.

So far it’s a pretty good start to the cast, but of course we will need to see Ryan in the iconic trenchcoat before we can truly pass judgement. Expect more news to come from NBC’s Constantine in the next few weeks, along with many of the other TV series currently in production. It’s a good time to be a comic and TV geek, so be sure to check back for the latest news and updates!
