A new Dawn of the Planet of the Apes trailer has arrived and gives a first good look at not only the interaction between the humans and the apes, but also a taste of the actual story line.
Give credit where credit is due, 20th Century Fox is doing an incredible job with the promotion of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The first few Dawn of the Planet of the Apes trailers and TV spots have been very minimalist, imparting little of the story, but managing to raise excitement at the same time. The teaser trailer we saw a bit of the humans, Gary Oldman giving an impassioned speech and Jason Clarke venturing out to ask for a meeting with Caesar, and in the TV spot we saw the apes as they ride into battle.
Now, we get our first look at both sides, at the same time, and it is glorious.
Home… Family… Future… and then you meet Kirk Acevedo (Fringe, Oz) in the woods and all hell breaks loose.
Is there anything to say about this trailer other than “Oh my God that looks awesome!”? Because that’s all I’m able to manage at this point. You’ve got not only Gary Oldman crying, but also a hint of a tear in Caesar’s eye as he watches old video of him and James Franco. There’s the showdown between Jason Clarke and Gary Oldman. The sight of the apes overrunning the city as Caesar, very calmly and in a very matter of fact tone, proclaims that the war has already begun… it’s enough to take Dawn of the Planet of the Apes to the top of my “most anticipated” list for this summer.
Directed by Matt Reeves and starring Gary Oldman, Keri Russel, Jason Clarke, and Andy Serkis, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has a published release date of July 11, despite the trailer still sticking with the generic and noncommittal, July.
