Earlier today, DC Entertainment and Warner Brothers Animation announced that they're working on a direct-to-video animated feature entitled Superman: Unbound. It, as the title suggests, is an adaptation of Geoff Johns' 2008 Action Comics arc of the same name. The James Tucker-directed film will be released this summer.
One of the most exciting aspects of the film is its impressive voice cast. It includes Matt Bomer (White Collar) as Clark Kent/Superman, John Nobel (Fringe) as Brainiac, Stana Katic (Castle) as Lois Lane and Molly Quinn (Castle) as Kara/Supergirl. That’s a literal Who’s Who of nerdy tv show stars. Needless to say, I’m quite excited.
“[Bomer] had a jovial energy that was a little counter to what we usually do with Superman,” Tucker told TV Guide. “But he also had that decency in his voice that Superman really needs no matter which way you go with him.”
“I could listen to [Nobel] all day,” he added. “John had a lot of energy and he really got into the psychology of what was motivating Brainiac. He brought a level of intelligence, but also that slight bit of crazy that a super villain needs to have under the surface to make him compelling.”
Check out Superman: Unbound’s angular art style in the still I’ve posted below. It originally appeared with Tucker’s TV Guide interview.
