Dean Parisot to Direct Bill & Ted 3

The long-awaited third installment of the Bill & Ted franchise is one step closer to happening! Earlier today, Vulture ran a post declaring that Dean Parisot, the man behind the criminally underrated Galaxy Quest, has officially been named as the film’s director. He will be working from a script written by Bill & Ted creators Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson.

Thankfully, this will be no gritty reboot; we will actually be seeing what Bill and Ted are up to in the modern day. Could the Wyld Stallyns-inspired utopian future we caught a glimpse of in the first film be in danger of not happening again? Here’s hoping our heroes still have the ability to make things right.

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are on board to reprise their roles in Bill & Ted 3. With the original writers and titular heroes in place, this has a good chance of being excellent. The only thing that makes me nervous is the fact that they are aiming to make it “a mid-priced studio comedy like Hot Tub Time Machine.” The mid-priced part sounds OK, but do we really need to see Bill & Ted in a gross-out comedy?
