This past weekend, D23 The official Disney Fan Club kicked off their second annual D23 Fanniversary, a touring special presentation to commemorate Disney milestones, over the weekend at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA. Curated by members of the Disney Archives and D23, Disney fans will get the opportunity to journey through Disney memories which are celebrating anniversaries this year.
2013′s festivities include some great behind the scenes and never before seen glimpses of moments of faves such as Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the launch of the Disney Channel, and celebrations within the theme parks like the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.
Geek was able to join in on the Disney love fest on it’s first stop and coincidentally the place where it all began – The Walt Disney Studios. The show opened up with the curators guiding us on a trip back in time that seemed like something out of a Disneyland ride, complete with audience interaction. We took the Disney time machine back to 1923, the year that the Walt Disney Company was founded. Yes, this year the mouse house turns 90! And we got to take a look at images from the early days, many of which can not be seen anywhere else. Fanniversary is an event like no other.
Attendees get access to real Disney treasure such as an original Tinkerbell sketch sequencing, footage of rides from other parks, like the super spooky Cinderella Castle Mystery Walk through in Tokyo Disney, and the opportunity to get up close to a real Disney artifact from the archives! Burbank attendees got to see a Gaucho doll of Walt given to him by the Argentinian press members while he was researching in South America. The best parts are the musical throwback moments where you sing along to iconic Disney songs from show openings like the Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers theme. You can feel the passion of the Disney fan base and feel like you’ve found your people. Disney fans are a special breed of fandom and this event is the perfect excuse to show your Disney Pride.
