Aladdin, a new musical adaptation of the beloved Disney film, is in Pre-Broadway try-outs in Toronto after a successful run in Seattle last year. With a new draft of the production being written by Chad Beguelin ("The Wedding Singer," "Elf") and the participation of fan favorites Alan Menken ("The Little Mermaid", "Aladdin"), it's gearing up to be one of the most anticipated musicals to open next year. Let's hope that we'll be able to see a good translation of one of the most popular animated Disney fairy tales on stage after the not-so successful reception of The Little Mermaid. Yes, the one with roller skating mermaids... yikes!
What Broadway stars can you see or want to see in this production to play Princess Jasmine? or Jafar? Would Robin Williams be willing to play Genie? (That’s a stretch but we can dream.)
Realistically though, my vote is on Ramin Karimloo (recent Phantom Of The Opera) as a contender to play Aladdin.
