Disney’s Bob Iger Confirms Star Wars Standalone Films

We can now say it with 100% certainty: Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are working on standalone Star Wars films. Now what are we going to speculate about? Oh yeah, Tomorrowland

In an interview with CNBC, Disney CEO Bob Iger broke it down like this: “[Kasdan and Kinberg are] working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga, so we still plan to make Star Wars VII, VIII and IX roughly over a six-year period of time starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time, too.”

So, it looks like the Marvel Studios model will be applied to Star Wars, only in reverse. I believe this will work beautifully. The rumor du jour is that standalone film number one will revolve on Yoda. I don’t believe this rumor is backed up by any factual information; however, I know I’d love to see it. I’d also be into seeing Mace Windu show up at the end of it to recruit somebody for something. No one else on the internet has said that, have they?

Which denizens of the Star Wars universe do you hope get their own films? Any mentions of Jar Jar will immediately be deleted. Mesa just kidding, guys.
