At long last, “Asylum of the Daleks,” the first episode of Doctor Who series seven, finally has an official airdate. The BBC issued an announcement yesterday that the episode would debut on Saturday, September 1 in the UK, US and Canada. Four more new episodes will show throughout the duration of the fall, one of which will feature the exit of the Doctor’s current companions, the Ponds. The rest of the series will show in 2013, which, as any good Whovian will tell you, is the 50th anniversary of the show.
The Doctor’s 50th will be celebrated with a new special written by Mark Gatiss, co-creator of Sherlock and author of several episodes of Who. Although the guest list for the special has yet to be confirmed, a number of ex-companions and former Doctors will supposedly be back for it.
