Looks like Doctor Who's former companion is set to take on a whole other space-faring adventure (without the time travel) as the lead villain in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Karen Gillan, who played Doctor Who’s companion Amy Pond opposite Matt Smith for several seasons (or “series” as the Brits call them), will be taking on a very different role as the main antagonist in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which is set to start shooting in the UK in late June. Nothing else is known about her character at this time.

However, it was also recently announced that Glenn Close had joined the cast as the leader of the Nova Corps, which answered many a fan’s questions as to whether the Nova character (or the organization he’s from) might make an appearance in the film. Marvel has already cast Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation) as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana (Star Trek) as Gamora, and Dave Bautista (WWE wrestler) as Drax the Destroyer. Lee Pace and Michael Rooker have also been listed as villains for the space adventure. There’s also rumors that John C Reilly could join the cast, but nothing has been confirmed as yet.

What do you think? Does Amy Pond have an evil streak in her? We’ll find out August 1st, 2014.
