The superhero genre is riddled with good movies, bad movies, and Roger Corman's Fantastic Four, which somehow lands elsewhere.
Roger Corman is a legend in the film industry. His guiding hand has not only given us incredible films like Creatures from the Deep, but he has also helped send craftsmen like Joe Dante on to Hollywood stardom. Out of the hundreds of films he has made, only one never officially saw the light of day. That film is The Fantastic Four. There were numerous reasons circulating about why this was never released, and now we have the final word on the subject straight from the team behind the movie. Welcome to Doomed! The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s Fantastic Four.
First, the promo:
And now the trailer:
The excitement level was at 11 after watching this trailer. As a huge fan of Corman’s work, as well as a superhero nerd I know this film well and appreciate the strange blend of heroism and awful story telling. This trailer looks to fill in all the gaps that have left fans like myself wondering what really happened with it’s release. Seeing Roger himself, Alex Hyde-White (Reed Richards), Jay Underwood (Johnny Storm), Rebecca Staab (Susan Storm), Michael Bailey Smith (Ben Grimm) and Joseph Culp (Doctor Doom) all contribute to the documentary is great. The passion they share when talking about this film manages to drag you straight into the story.
This will be an absolute must see once it’s released. The documentary is already available for pre-order on their website, but only for US customers. Hopefully this will extend out to other countries later on in the year, and there is a great deal of merchandise relating to the movie through the same website. We’re just hoping they explain why the film used a character called The Jeweller who looked and acted like a greedy Mole Man instead of using Mole Man himself.
If you didn’t know about the first attempt at a Fantastic Four movie, and you’re now wondering what all the fuss is about, check out the video below. It will blow your mind, but whether it’s enjoyable or not will all be up to you.
