Pacific Rim director Guillermo Del Toro made a special appearance at the outdoor Qualcomm stage at E3 in Los Angeles Wednesday afternoon to discuss Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor technology, used in creating his new film, and his love for giant monster movies.
He even debuted new footage in a private screening room for media and fans at the end of the presentation. But before he could step off the stage, Qualcomm presented Del Toro with a special gift: a portrait of himself by performance painter David Garibaldi. Upon seeing it, Del Toro exclaimed, “I look like a drug dealing Michael Moore. It’s fantastic!”
Qualcomm is currently running special promotions on their Facebook page in conjunction with Pacific Rim and Legendary Pictures, where you can take part in the Qualcomm Snapdragon Jaeger Program to win prizes, tickets to the premiere, and more!

We also talked to Jim Merrick, Marketing Director for Gaming & Graphics at Qualcomm, about the little known and little seen, but easily the most important component of any mobile device, the processor. We even got a demo of their Snapdragon 800 processor running 4K quality video with Dolby 7.1 surround sound from a tablet device connected to a big HD screen, creating some incredible visuals and sound unlike anything we’d ever expect from a mobile device.
