Pinball fans are in for a treat with the upcoming release of Jersey Jack Pinball's The Hobbit.

After Williams, Bally, Data East and the other heavy-hitters of pinball’s modern heyday hung up their hats in the ’90s, Jersey Jack Pinball burst onto the scene in 2013 with its critically-acclaimed Wizard of Oz pin.  Boasting a 26-inch HD display and never before seen depth of game play, JJP set the standard for a new generation of pinball machines. Their next game, based on The Hobbit trilogy, has the potential to open up the world of the silver ball to a new generation of aficionados.

The Hobbit pinball is slated for release in the third quarter of 2014, just prior to the release of the next movie in The Hobbit franchise, the now-titled Battle of the Five Armies.  The machine is still in early stages of development, but recent videos of the play-field layout show promise.

Pinball fans may recognize the mid-play-field pop-ups as the trolls from Williams’ Medieval Madness. JJP also used Williams parts in its Wizard of Oz pin, and the trolls will certainly get a cosmetic overhaul in the finished product.  Rumor has it that the empty area in the upper-left corner of the play-field will integrate Smaug into the game play.

With these latest playfield videos, JJP has also provided a new LCD animation video.  Multiball, anyone?
