Final Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Trailer Rocks

The final Dawn of the Planet of the Apes trailer is here, and it contains some choice gems, setting us up for the film later next month.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes, despite an awful title and admittedly campy source material, turned out to be one of the most impressive classic film reinterpretations of the last few years. Few people would have believed such a far-fetched sci-fi premise could make the transition to today’s action and grit-heavy blockbusters, but somehow Rise managed to survive the process. Thanks to a great reintroduction to the Apes mythos, we’re now looking forward to a more evolved and threatening army of simians with the sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and as we near the film’s release we’ve been treated to a brand new trailer.

It’s awesome, right? Okay, so let’s break it down. First, we get more of an insight into how close Caesar is to the main human character, Malcolm (Jason Clarke). Apparently, he’s so involved in Malcolm’s life that Koba (Toby Kebbell) accuses Caesar of being a human-lover. The scene could end up being a classic in the long-lasting Apes mythos, harkening back to Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, a thinly-veiled film addressing the racial battles that took place in America during its time. One could argue that Koba’s speciesism is a parallel to some of the racial tensions we have seen and still see in our country today. In short, it looks like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, in classic sci-fi fashion, will address some very real human issues.

Next, we got some snippets that show that the final war for earthly supremacy is going to be even more intense than we could have ever imagined. We were shown some tension with the latest clip released, “Go,” which is right here.

The intensity in the scene is so thick you could cut it. But even with the parts that were shown in the clip and the trailer, you can bet that there is going to one particular scene that will completely shock audiences, just like what happened when Caesar spoke for the first time in Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Overall, this film is shaping up to be one of the biggest draws of the summer. With so many new elements, such as the Simian Flu pandemic and more fleshed-out ape characters like Koba, as well as so many references to prior Apes films, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes seems like it’ll have something from Apes purists and fans that are new to the series.

What do you think about the trailer and clip? How excited are you for the premiere of the film (which is July 11)? Write your opinions in the comments section below!
