Marvel has finally released a trailer for the newest Captain America movie, and it's damn good.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be the third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to feature Captain America, and about the 100th with Nick Fury. Alright, so it’s only number six for Col. Fury, but it feels like more. The film also brings back Scarlett Johansson for her third turn as the Black Widow. Seeing as so many of these characters are now established, it should leave plenty of room for the introduction of new elements to the film’s mythology. Some of which you can see in the trailer below…
Headlining the rather well constructed trailer you just watched was Hollywood icon Robert Redford, who provides a new voice in Cap’s ear and adds some gravitas to the cast. And since the film’s tone has been compared to that of a ’70s spy thriller, Redford’s casting makes sense given his involvement in films like Three Days of the Condor, Sneakers, and Spy Games. Mr. Redford plays Alexander Pierce, a name many comic fans will recognize, but if you don’t, probably best to leave it that way. Google can be riddled with potential spoilers.
Another actor that was spotted in those two and half minutes was Anthony Mackie who is portraying Sam Wilson, better known in the funnies as The Falcon. Introduced in issue 117 of Captain America, back in September of 1969, the Falcon was mainstream comics’ first African-American superhero, and acted a Cap’s partner for most of the 1970s. It’s probably past due that he gets an introduction into mainstream film as well.
I can certainly say that after the trailer I’m more excited for this movie than I was yesterday. Here’s to hoping that this movie, as well as the upcoming Thor sequel, turn out better than the Iron Man sequels did.
