Friday The 13th TV Series In The Works

Permanent resident of Camp Crystal Lake, Jason Voorhees appears to be heading to our small screens in the form of a new Friday The 13th TV series.

With such a large number of film-to-television crossovers like Fargo and Hannibal hitting our small screens it looks like Jason Voorhees wants a stab (sorry) at the action. The successful trend of horror series like The Walking Dead, American Horror Story, and the recently premiered Penny Dreadful are lighting up both critics and audiences alike. Deadline now reports that Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment will produce a new hour-long series “based upon the characters and settings of Friday the 13th.”

Sean S. Cunningham, director of the original 1980 Friday The 13th will be acting as executive producer on the show. Jordu Schell, who has worked on creature effects for a number of fantastic horror flicks, including the Dawn Of The Dead remake and The Mist, and Bill Basso, who worked on several projects as a special effects artist with Stan Winston Studios are heading up the writing team. The overview of the series’ synopsis will reportedly feature Jason in “multiple time periods,” and also reveal new secrets of the cooky and homicidal Voorhees clan

Says original feature director Cunningham of the new series:

Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the genre and we plan to build on this legacy with a provocative and compelling take that expands upon the storylines that have already thrilled millions worldwide

Horror Inc. President Robert Barsamian also chimed in:

Expect the show to take viewers in some exciting new directions that we’re confident will not only excite existing fans of ‘Friday the 13th’ but also attract new audiences to the situations and characters that inhabit the small town of Crystal Lake.

Though the new feature film reboot is still in the air, the new television series that will accompany it sounds promising. With the original creators backing the project along with promising show-runners and writers, who’s to say this won’t be a successful transition for Jason?

The franchise has already graced the small screen once more and we would be looking at the 13th (oh yes, the irony) incarnation of the famed mama’s boy of Crystal Lake.
