After weeks of speculation, Wonder Woman has been confirmed for the Man of Steel sequel!
Joining Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne Batman will be Gal Gadot as the Amazonian Princess. Rumors have been circulating for a while now on whether we would see the first cinematic appearance of Diana Prince AKA Wonder Woman in the Man of Steel sequel, which is tentatively titled Batman vs Superman. Warner Bros. announced the casting earlier today, and director Zack Snyder spoke about Gadot’s role as the final member of DC’s Trinity:
Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.
This is huge news for the developing DC Cinematic Universe, and even more so for the character of Diana Prince, who has been shunned from the cinemas for years. While Gal Gadot is not a name that may have been brought up with the character a lot in the past, a recent rumored list of actresses being sought for an ‘exotic’ role in the film mentioned her, along with Olga Kurylenko and Elodie Young, which started the Wonder Woman speculation. Gadot is probably best known for her roles in the last few Fast and the Furious films, and she was Miss Israel in 2004 before her tour of duty with the Israeli Defense Forces.
DC Entertainment is certainly wasting no time in giving the primary characters the much needed screen time to build demand for the eventual Justice League film, but will this drown out the Man of Steel sequel? Instead of continuing the solo stories of the characters in their own sequels it seems like we will be seeing a primer for a JL movie, and is that really the right direction for the characters? Especially with rumors of yet another superhero popping up, with Dick Grayson AKA Nightwing mentioned as appearing in the film as well, with Adam Driver (Girls) rumored to portray the character. With the Wonder Woman rumor now confirmed, is there more to come from the Man of Steel sequel?
We will be keeping an eye on this developing story, but be sure to let us know what you think of this casting announcement in the comments section below!
