Relax Game of Thrones fans, there is only a few weeks till the new season starts.
For those of you who just can’t wait, the wonderful people at Beautiful Death have cooked up a little something special you can sink your teeth into before the long winter sets upon us all.
Certainly author George R.R. Martin is not shy about killing off his characters and HBO has found a way to remind old viewers and warn newcomers that in Westeros life may not be cheap, but it certainly can be short. Over the course of the next month Beautiful Death will be counting down the days until the new season by displaying beautiful artistic interpretations of the series most iconic deaths – one a day until the new season starts.
Artist Robert Ball (Wired Magazine, Esquire, ESPN) has outdone himself with these wonderful posters which are sufficiently vague as to not ruin the viewing experience for newcomers but familiar enough such that longtime viewers will immediately grasp what is going on. Ball’s minimalist style may be the kind of thing you would see in modern comic books, but it’s the perfect match for the kind of melancholy evoked by many of the deaths without resorting to gore.
And if Ball’s luscious illustrations weren’t enough to satiate your desires you can pick up your own pen and paper then create and submit your own artwork to the site. Do you have your own vision of the Red Wedding? Well get out the watercolors and share your unique vision with the programs millions of fans. In my opinion HBO continues to push the envelope by illustrating how in touch with the show’s fan base and the type of creativity they may exhibit.
Game of Thrones Season 4 returns to HBO on April 6.
