Avengers #4

Welcome back to the Weekly Comic Pull List! Let’s take a look at this week’s slate of upcoming issues, as well as a few of my picks for the week of Jan. 30, 2013.

Marvel

geeks weekly comic pull list 013013 avengers 4 Geeks Weekly Comic Pull List 1/30/13Avengers #4

I love that this series is biweekly, because it means we get more of Hickman’s amazing Avengers every month. As we continue to learn more about the new team and the plans of Ex Nihilo and the Garden. This issue we’ll learn more about Hyperion, the cross dimensional powerhouse who has been marvel’s version of Superman for years, despite not having a leading role pretty much ever. Another unique thing about Hyperion? There are a lot of him, and they aren’t all good. And this Hyperion is one we’ve never seen before, which means he’s either a really powerful teammate, or the next threat the Avengers have to face?

Dark Avengers #186

Hawkeye #7

Fraction and Aja’s Hawkeye is such a great read with absolutely fantastic art, that there shouldn’t need to be another reason for you to pick it up.There is, of course, as this issue is Marvel’s answer to Hurricane Sandy (proceeds will be going to charity) and sees Clint and Kate dealing with the ramifications of a hurricane on the east coast. Split into two stories, this issue is the calm before the storm as the next issue sees the start of Fraction and Aja’s ‘mini-opus’ that features a villain reveal nobody is expecting. If you pick up any comic this week, make sure it’s Hawkguy.

Journey into Mystery #648

Punisher: Nightmare #5

Punisher: War Zone #4

As if you aren’t picking this issue up. With the huge reveal at the end of the first issue, things aren’t quite as they seem as Otto Octavius continues to try and prove that he is Superior to Peter Parker in every way. As he takes on the new Sinister Six, he’s forced to deal with the team he created as Doctor Octopus. Otto also continues to reap the benefits of being Peter Parker, like his budding relationship with Mary Jane Watson. This series is just amping up, and if you dropped it after the death of Peter Parker in Amazing Spider-Man #700, I suggest you pick it back up again immediately.

Aquaman is cool. Did anybody see this coming? Could anybody have predicted that one of the best parts of the New 52 was going to be Aquaman? His epic crossover with the Justice League continues in this penultimate chapter as he’s forced to make a choice between Ocean Master and the League for the Throne of Atlantis. All while the Trench return from the depths to feed and look menacing.

Also we get to see a unique case that leads to the Mad hatter, but it might be unlike anything we’ve seen form him before. As Batman follows the trail of dead bodies, we enter a world of chaos that will no doubt be beautifully drawn by van Sciver. Seriously, Ethan van Sciver. Buy this book. Also Batman.

Masters of the Universe: The Origin of He-Man #1

Red Lanterns #16

Superman #16

H’el on Earth continues as Superman, Superboy and the Justice League continue the fight to take back the Fortress of Solitude from H’el and Supergirl. I am loving Kenneth Rocafort’s pencils throughout this series, and the dramatic turn of Supergirl has been shocking. While I’m still not quite used to the Superman family not being a family in any way, I think this first crossover between the super teams has been going great. So if you’re looking for some well drawn Kryptonian action, this would be the issue to pick up.

Superman Family Adventures #9

Talon #4

Teen Titans #16

Death of the Family continues as the Teen Titans and the Outlaws look for Red Robin and Red Hood, while dealing with the madness of the Joker that is infecting Gotham City. Arsenal takes control of the team which is bound to be an interesting mix of attitude, arrows, and probably some T & A with Starfire involved. Meanwhile, Tim and Jason have to work together to survive the latest deathtrap from the Joker, which is all leading up to the final issue of this epic crossover in Batman #17.
