"Sugar, spice and everything nice..." and a dash of Chemical X of course, which marks the intro of the worlds cutest crime-fighting trio The Powerpuff Girls, and in 2016 they'll light up our TV screens again.
You’d be silly to deny the the pop cultural tidal wave the Powerpuff Girls left in their wake as one of the more recent satirical animated series in the Cartoon Network lineup. With the world’s current obsession with nostalgia, it’s no surprise that Cartoon Network is rebooting the series as well as a full licensing program – which means we’ll get some awesome new merchandise out of it. The Townsville trio in the past grossed over $2.5 million in retail sales and the series 78 episode run won two Emmy awards. Pete Yoder, the vice president of consumer products for North America, Cartoon Network Enterprises explains the impact of The Powerpuff Girls:
As the original ambassador of girl power, ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ brand continues to resonate with people of all ages and there is tremendous excitement around introducing Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup to a new generation. With proven success and great content plans in place, there’s so much potential that we’re looking forward to explore with our licensing partners in the coming weeks.
Returning with a new animation style and creative team, Powerpuff Girls could prove to be a welcomed animated addition to the modern cartoon pantheon. With all the changes in the new cartoon, we wonder if we’ll see fan favorites like Mojo Jojo, HIM or the Rowdy Ruff Boys make an appearance. It’ll be a while till 2016 rolls around, so get a dose of the feels compliments of Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup in the Powerpuff Girls intro.
