After a week full of teasers building hype for the newest Guardians of the Galaxy trailer, it is finally here, and it is awesome!
The first trailer we saw a few months ago focused a lot more on the humorous side of the film, especially with Chris Pratt’s portrayal of Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord.This trailer is also full of a few funny moments, but the action and characters take a center stage while also revealing our first look at the villain of the piece: Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser. Check out the new trailer below:
For this trailer we get to see the formation of the Guardians, a few choice shots of Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael, Benicio del Toro as The Collector, and of course, our first look at Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser. With Ronan playing as the big bad in the film, we have to wonder which comic origin the character will be following. In the mainstream Marvel universe Ronan is a Kree warrior, but in the Ultimate line of comics Ronan is the son of Thanos. This would presumably fall more in line with the MCU version of things, considering Thanos is going to play a big part in the future of the MCU.
Of course, we have to talk a little about Rocket Raccoon and Groot, who make their first vocal appearance in this trailer. We did see a little bit of Rocket in a teaser before, but the few moments in the trailer that they speak really help fill out the cast much more than the first trailer did. Rocket’s voice might not quite match up with my own personal thoughts on how the character would speak (especially after the cockney accent used in the Marvel vs. Capcom series), but I am excited to hear more of Bradley Cooper’s Rocket.
The music in the trailers has been perfect, and both songs have greatly helped to enhance the mood of the film. This trailer kicks off with Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky,” which is followed by Blue Suede’s “Hooked on a Feeling,” which worked so well in the first trailer. All of these factors produced an exciting, action-packed trailer that only serves to excite us even more as we wait in anticipation. We took a few screengrabs of the trailer that you can scroll through below
Along with the trailer, James Gunn and the cast held a Q&A on Facebook, which was fairly entertaining and just might have revealed a few details about the film. Or not, but either way you can check out the Q&A at the Guardians of the Galaxy Facebook page.
Guardians of the Galaxy is quickly becoming one of our most anticipated films of the year, and we can’t wait for August 1st. Did this trailer change your feelings on the film, and was it a positive change? Let us know on the GEEK Facebook page or in the comments section below!
