Best known for his role as mostly confused Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreations, Chris Pratt is amping up his game, and his work out, for the new offbeat Marvel superhero flick Guardians of the Galaxy.
If you have never heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy, or the legendary outlaw Star-Lord, you’re not alone…
Alongside the newly ripped Pratt is a team described by director James Gunn as “a thief, two thugs, a murderer and a maniac.”
Making up the Guardian team are Rocket Raccoon, an expert marksman and tactician voiced by Bradley Cooper. Rocket and his good friend Groot, a Monarch of planet X, a sentient tree-like alien voiced by Vin Diesel, who are the right and left hand to Guardian leader Star-Lord. Zoe Saldana steps into the role of Gamora, last of her race and adopted daughter of bad guy titan Thanos, who is described in the comics as “the most dangerous woman in the galaxy.” Finalizing the main crew is Drax the Destroyer, played by Dave Bautista, who was created in the comics to destroy Thanos after his family was murdered by the mad titan.
The Guardians rag tag underdog persona and rebellious attitude, made evident by their snarky movie poster, makes them a nice contrast to the recent Marvel heroes gracing the big screen.
Rounding out the cast are Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, Michael Rooker, Glenn Close, Karen Gillan and Djimon Hounsou, playing out a story that Joss Whedon called a “twisted” take on the comic, while assuring fans that Gunn will stay true to the source material.
Speaking of Whedon, another potential drawing point for the film is the super not so secret cameo by one Nathan Fillion, which has been all but confirmed by Gunn via his not so vague Twitter response to Fillion’s spillage of the beans at the Wizard World St. Louis Firefly Panel:
Wanting to get a part…or maybe did..I’m just saying maybe… Maybe they’ll be a surprise…maybe check the credits of the movie when you watch it.
There is a cat running around my office let out of his respective bag. I have a feeling @NathanFillion has been in here.
