Those eager to see the further adventures of Gordon Freeman have just had their hopes dashed again.

The organizers of Gamescom 2012, the yearly video game expo held in Cologne, Germany, posted a list of titles that would be shown at this year’s festival on their website. To everyone’s surprise, including Valve’s apparently, the long-awaited Half Life 3 made the list. Sadly, it was eventually pulled from the list and called a “mistake” by Gamescom officials. The cause for the mistake is still a mystery, though.

Half Life 2 Episode 2, the last installment of the series, released in 2007. Since then, fans have been kept in the dark regarding the future of the series. Prior to Gamescom, Valve made a point to alert the media that they’d have no exciting news to divulge at the show. There’s always a chance they could surprise us, right? We just have to believe!

Other notable games on the list include Dragon Age 3 and Bioshock: Infinite. The latter, according to its developer, would not be shown at Gamescom.
