Halo: Forward Unto Dawn Trailer

Comic-Con attendees are watching this on the show floor, and now you can see it at home. It's the full-length trailer for Halo: Forward Unto Dawn, the big-budget, live-action web series being produced to promote the upcoming Halo 4.

The series is being released exclusively on the new Machinima Prime channel on YouTube, as well as on Halo Waypoint. It debuts October 5th, chronicling the early days of humanity’s war against the Covenant through the eyes of cadets at a military academy. Microsoft says that the series even leads into the events of Halo 4 somehow, so I guess there will be lots of narrative time jumps.

Machinima Prime will have some additional content during the series’ run, like character spotlights and additional backstory scenes. The series is directed by Stewart Hendler (Sorority Row) and written by Todd & Aaron Helbing (Smallville, Spartacus). You may recognize some of the faces in this trailer. The one that jumped out at me was Anna Popplewell (Susan from The Chronicles of Narnia) as the love interest cadet. Oh, and get this: while his voice is provided by the usual source, wearing Master Chief’s armor and helmet is Daniel Cudmore (Colossus from X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand).

When Halo 4 releases on November 6th, a special edition of Halo: Forward Unto Dawn will be released on home video as a 90-minute movie with added footage.
