Shadow of the Colossus released for the Sony Playstation 2 in 2005. In it, players were dropped into the shoes of a man named Wander tasked with defeating 16 sizable foes to resurrect a girl named Mono. The game's narrative isn't exactly dense; nevertheless, a film adaptation has been on the table for a while now. Sony Pictures announced development of a Shadow of the Colossus film in 2009.
Not too much has been said about the project since Chronicle’s Josh Trank signed on to direct it last May. Yesterday, though, The Hollywood Reporter gave us some more news: Seth Lochhead, who wrote the criminally underrated Hanna, has been hired to pen the script. Trank, a self-professed big fan of Shadow of the Colossus, will be by his side to ensure the script is faithful to the original work.
The problem with most game-to-film adaptations is that the person in charge isn’t familiar enough with the game to understand what people like about it (i.e. Uwe Boll). With an actual fan holding the reigns, the Shadow of the Colossus film could potentially be great. The story will need some heavy tweaking, though. Do you feel Trank and Lochhead will be able to pull it off?
