Christian Gossett's The Red Star — the Russian history and folklore-inspired fantasy/sci-fi epic — has returned to print in a deluxe collection that hit stores on Wednesday.
The new collection, published by IDW, features three stories: Know Your Enemy, Run Makita Run, and Rapid Fire, which was previously only published in the pages of Geek magazine. Gossett believes, according to his foreword in the book, that these three tales are well suited to grabbing new readers and introducing them to the world he’s created.
The Red Star, which originally began publication in 1999, previously had development deals at Universal and Warner Bros. for film adaptation, but Gossett said in a recent interview with CBR that now he’s “more excited than ever about The Red Star’s potential adaptation into some kind of filmed entertainment.” He revealed in that interview that he was approached by Ashley E. Miller and Zack Stentz, who together wrote Marvel’s Thor and X-Men: First Class movies, and the three are now working to bring it to screens (which we reported is now slated for TV).
IDW Publishing also announced a new Godzilla comic series, Godzilla: Cataclysm, which will be a five-issue limited series. During this 60th anniversary of Godzilla, writer Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun) and artist Dave Wachter (The Guns of Shadow Valley) explore the dystopian future, the remains from the monster apocalypse seen in IDW’s prior Godzilla series, Godzilla: The Half-Century War.
On Thursday, IDW and Activision announced that it would be publishing the first-ever comic book adaptation of the mega-hit videogame franchise Skylanders. The book is slated to be penned by veteran comic book scribe Ron Marz (Green Lantern, Witchblade). Mike Bowden and David Baldeon have been tasked with the primary art chores.
The announcement teased that the first issue would serve as a prequel to the “Skylanders Trap Team” storyline, and will provide a sneak peak at new characters set to appear in that pending game. The comic, Skylanders #0, will launch during San Diego Comic-Con weekend (July 24-27).
