J.J. Abrams & Valve May Work Together on New Game

A panel on storytelling in games & film was conducted today at the DICE Summit (that's Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain Summit to non-geeks) in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Only two panelists were involved - filmmaker (and Action Movie FX app developer) J.J. Abrams & Valve's Gabe Newell.

Many subjects were broached during the discussion; however, only one is currently being obsessively mulled over on the internet: Valve will be making a game of some sort with Abrams. And no, it isn’t Half Life 3; Polygon reports that it will be an all-new affair with zero ties to other Valve-developed titles. Newell did say that Abrams bringing either Half Life or Portal to the big screen was a possibility, though. That’s all well-and-could, but I’d REALLY like an Abrams-helmed Half Life game now. Can you imagine how awesome that would be? I can and will probably be dreaming about it all night. Apologies to the usual subject of my dreams, 80s Winona Ryder; I’ll see you tomorrow girl.

So, we now know of two filmmakers/Valve fans itching to get into the video game business – Abrams and Guillermo del Toro. The latter’s use of the voice of Portal’s GLaDOS caused some to speculate that Valve would be the home for his long-awaited game, inSane. I’m all for that. How about you?

Check out Polygon’s post-panel interview for more details on what went down. Also, be sure to give Action Movie FX a try. Making an asteroid fall out of your roof and into your crotch has never been simpler.
