Jessica Lange has been a driving force behind each season of American Horror Story, but the actress is taking her final bow, as far as the series is concerned.
Rumors have been swirling around for some time now that Jessica Lange, American Horror Story mainstay, would be leaving the series behind. The witchy actress has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that she will indeed be taking her leave from the creepy serial — and in fact, her final appearance won’t even be a lead role.
Jessica explains the decision in her own words to EW:
“It ends up being a lot of time during the year being committed to something. I haven’t done that for a long time. It’s like doing a stage play between the rehearsal and the run. This is a 6-month commitment every year. That will be four years in a row. I want to have more time to myself I guess. Once it’s over and I have a full year ahead of me with nothing to do, who knows? It might not have been the best decision. But I think four years doing something is a sufficient amount of time.”
Series creator Ryan Murphy has let few details leak about how Lange will exit the series, but you can bet it’ll be as fabulous as the actress herself. With season four apparently being shot in New Orleans or Santa Fe, who knows how she’ll end up? One thing’s for sure — no one will be able to fill the void she’ll leave behind.
