Last week a video hit YouTube that quickly went viral, gaining millions of views and flooding Facebook walls and social media feeds everywhere.
If you’ve spent anytime on the web in that time, odds are you’ve seen it. The girl in the pink shirt and yoga pants, attempting to twerk, and ending up on fire. If you’ve somehow missed it, here it is…
I tried making a sexy twerk video for my boyfriend and things got a little too hot
Last night, the twerker, Caitlin Heller, appeared on The Jimmy Kimmel Show with the promise to show an extended cut of the footage and be a good sport about the whole embarrassing ordeal.
As it turns out however, Caitlin isn’t real. She’s actually just a character played by stunt woman Daphne Avalon. Jimmy Kimmel in fact set up the whole thing. They then uploaded it to YouTube to see how long it would take for the thing to blow up. Well, not only did the internet latch on, but TV News outlets picked it up as well, no one bothering to check its authenticity. And while some commenters online theorized that it was a fake, the public as a whole seemed to accept it as genuine. Afterall, twerking is just another silly fad gone wrong involving the misguided youth of America. As she uploaded the video herself, it was assumed she wasn’t seriously injured, so this seemed an amusing penance to most. Most all of us fell for it.
They tricked pretty much everyone with an internet connection on this one. Well played Mr. Kimmel. Well played.
